Condo homes can still have a distinctive design identity
Many homeowners feel that condo renovations in Singapore are naturally more limited due to fixed layouts and structural restrictions.
At Altwood Design, we view these parameters not as restrictions, but as a canvas for premium interior design.
True luxury is not defined by size alone, but by the depth of detailing, material layering, and the ability to create a home that feels deeply personal.
This was the exact challenge presented to us for our upcoming PineTree Hill project—a 1,500-square-foot condominium where two very different design preferences had to coexist harmoniously within a fixed layout.
The result is a home that feels warm, elegant, layered, and uniquely tailored to the homeowners.
1. The Luxury of Time: Designing 1 Year Before TOP
One of the biggest advantages of this project was time.
The homeowners approached us a full year before the development's Temporary Occupation Permit (TOP) date, allowing us to carefully study the layout, refine spatial planning, review material combinations, and develop the design direction without rushing the process.
This early planning stage gave us the flexibility to thoughtfully curate every detail before renovation works even began.
2. Resolving Two Completely Different Design Preference
When we first sat down with the young couple, their design aspirations seemed fundamentally incompatible:
One partner loved the ornate symmetry, refined wall moldings, and effortless romance of French aesthetics.
The other partner felt most at home surrounded by the grounded, organic textures of raw timber and subtle Eastern design philosophies.
Instead of forcing a compromise where one partner had to sacrifice their vision, our team approached this brief through the lens of bespoke interior design.
The solution? The Straits-Refined Nanyang Style — a historical architectural language where these two worlds naturally intersect.
The final design combines warm wood elements, contemporary oriental calmness, French detailing, deep grey lacquer cabinetry, and carefully layered lighting and soft furnishing textures.
3. Creating Impact Without Structural Changes
Because condominium structural modifications are limited, much of the design character had to come from materiality, detailing, and atmosphere.
To elevate the spatial experience, we introduced:
Custom timber ceiling details
Bespoke carpentry integration
Deep charcoal-grey cabinetry finishes
Layered ambient lighting
Carefully curated loose furniture and textiles
These details help create depth, warmth, and personality without relying on major architectural reconstruction.
This upcoming premium Condo renovation project proves that you do not need a landed plot to experience bespoke interior design. No matter the property type, a home can always be masterfully engineered to reflect your unique family narrative.
